Customer Rating: Summary: Fabulous book Comment: This book came highly recommended and for good reason. Denny Flinn saves his reader from looking like an idiot, and I thank him for it. He's a voice of competence and experience. I read this and SAVE THE CAT by Blake Snyder and feel equipped to move forward. Rumor has it that these are the two top books on screenwriting, if you don't count Syd Field's SCREENWRITING, which finishes the trinity.
Customer Rating: Summary: More advice, good advice Comment: I read this years ago. As I recall there were some good ideas on what not to do. As with all books there are also opinions about how to write, what to write, and helpful tips, but these won't get your script purchased. You may improve some of your technique, and that is useful, but this book isn't going to make you a star. At best it will help you avoid errors that turn off producers, at worst it will have little to help an advanced writer.
The only way to really 'make it' is to have contacts, write good stuff, and have a personality that ignores rejection, accepts criticism, and has a driving desire to get your work out there. This book will add to your ability. If you've never written a script the book is a good beginners lesson on how to do it. I've written about 15 scripts and there were a few tips that I could use. If one tip helps you get in the door, well, it's worth it.
Customer Rating: Summary: Chances are you won't make many of these 101 mistakes Comment: After writing my first screenplay I bought several books to help me tighten things up and make sure I had a good structure. This book will help you make a presentable screenplay and avoid a few common formatting and descriptive mistakes.
Even as a first time screenwriter having read no books I had avoided almost every mistake mentioned. I only learned 3 or 4 things I didn't already think about. It's good as a reference and might help you catch a couple things you didn't think of. If you know nothing of screenwriting and need the basics this will be helpful. If you know the basics there are better books you could choose that will help more with structure and story.
I liked the book, it had a fun format. It just wasn't as useful as I'd have liked it to have been.
Customer Rating: Summary: Amazing, Helpful Book Comment: I have just got this book and it is apsolutly amazing!!! It is very helpful and very exciting to read. I have been reading this book whenever I get the chance how great it is. I recommend it to anyone who wants to be a screenplay writer or even reader!
Customer Rating: Summary: Simple. Clear. Informative. Comment: Till now I bought lots of screenwriting books. I can say "fully successful" only for this title. It's consist of two main units. Format and contend. At first sight you can find the contend part too short or too shallow... But believe me he says everything in short and simple. He leaves nothing back to say.
