Summary: lots of fun! but finicky
Comment: This is a great computer game, with lots of puzzles to solve, in increasing difficulties. Unfortunately, it only works on my friend's computer and not on mine, even though we are both running Windows XP.

Summary: Can work with Win XP, just requires workarounds
Comment: I have succeeded in getting this game to run. It requires doing a few things yourself instead of letting the various programs do it automatically.

First, you need to install DirectX directly from the CD. Browse the CD's contents for the DX folder, and use the setup/install program there to install the version of DirectX the program wants. Shouldn't take more than a few seconds.

Then you install the program WITHOUT the Compatibility Wizard.

THEN you open the Compatibility Wizard, point it to the run/play .exe file on the CD (which is necessary to run the program anyway) and set it to Win 98 and No Visual Themes (256 colors shouldn't be necessary).

I also changed the normal visual settings on my desktop to 16-bit colors, but I don't know if that was necessary. Experiment if you like.

Point is, doing the above gets DirectX installed, gets the program installed, and sets it to use the specific compatibility settings necessary without disturbing the permanent settings of your computer.

Summary: Will Not Display Correctly On Monitor
Comment: Bought this originally for my PC so that my grandchildren would have something to play when they visited. Even though the requirements state the game is for Windows XP and I have Vista, I was hoping that by using the Compatible Wizard I would be able to make it work on my computer. The game installed without a problem and played the beginning of the game where is showed how the Zoomblinis were made into slaves and how they escaped. But then when the game itself started,(the first level) the game crashed. I tried several times of uninstalling and reinstalling but the game just crashed each time it got to the first level. The graphics were beautiful and the story line was great, if only the game would have worked.

So I finally uninstalled the game and decided to give it to my 4 year old great grandson since he had access to a computer with Windows XP. No problem with installing or running the game on the computer with Windows XP. But I noticed 2 things about the game after is was installed. First of all, it did not show the first part of the game where you saw and heard the reason that led to the Zoombinis having to escape their slavery. But that was OK because my great grandson was more interested in playing the game than he was interested in the reason for the escape. The second defect I noticed about the game was that part of the game did not show--the part that had the menu icons. Since you could only see the edge of the icons, down in the bottom of the right hand corner, you had to guess which icon to click on to get what you wanted. My 4 year old grandson had a hard time remembering which icon to push to get to the next level because you could only see part of the icon--many times we kept going to the map instead of the next level.

My grandson loves this game, especially the level where you make pizzas. We never got very far into the game because of the problems with the icons--just took too long to get to the next level after continuously pushing the wrong icon.

My daughter in-law's monitor is not a wide screen monitor, which is common very common now, so maybe this is part of the problem with the display not showing the whole screen for this game. I am not real computer literate when it comes to hardware of a computer and maybe there is a way to shrink the screen on her monitor so that it will show the whole screens of the game. If anyone would care to comment on a solution on how to make this game display correctly on her monitor, I would appreciate the suggestion because my grandson really loves this game.

I only gave this game 3 stars because of how it is displayed on my daughter in-law's monitor, but for anyone who does not have this problem I highly recommend the game because it seems to be a fun game, especially for children.
