Customer Rating: Summary: It was a very good choice and we have been very pleased with it. Comment: It was a very good choice and we have been very pleased with it.
Customer Rating: Summary: Dont think this is an upgrade to previous versions Comment: If you already have Studio 12 to move to 14 is going backwards.
Firstly the video capture (now called Import) doesn't work for several current Camcorders that worked perfectly with Studio 12 eg Sony HDR-HC9 (in Pinnacles words doesn't work 'at now' whatever that means)Instead they offer some moderately complicated steps to fix work round it. I simply reverted to 12 to capture and then accessed the captured video from 14.
Secondly it has been dumbed down ie a number of features all present in 11 and 12 have been taken out - presumeably to make the Ultimate version more attractive. Biggest problem for me was the loss of the keyframe facility for pan and zoom or colour correction. Also the facility to lock down sound tracks seems to have gone.
Thirdly some of the irritating bugs in previous versions are still there. eg select a font for a title and thereafter the wrong font name appears in the edit screen.
Lastly as another reviewer has commented as the total project approaches 30 mins the system becomes unstable in editing, eg crashes after every 10 minutes or so and the cusor on the timeline starts to behave erratically. Defragging the disk doesn't help.
Also I agree the stabilizer IS better than previous versions - which didn't work at all - but in most situations doesn't stand up to replaying on a large screen at 1080i so for me this slight advantage is outweighed by what is lost.
NB Please note that the twice as expensive Ultimate version according to Pinnacle 'probably' has the same capture defect.
Customer Rating: Summary: WHY WOULD YOU BUY TONS OF PROBLEMS Comment: I started with Pinnacle 8 Studio, which had a terrible memory management, such as: program is ending abrupt, music is gone or titles.... all because of software problems. Because I needed something to make videos, I later bought version 10, thinking that Pinnacle has fixed the memory problem in the meantime. Not at all, actually I could not find out why I paid another 140 bucks for this crap. Because of version 10, I needed to fix my computer twice and than went back to version 8. OK here is the thing, if you have a video is probably 2 or 3 minutes, it might work. I needed the video with titles, photos with transition and music for about 10 to 12 minutes. Just forget it, don't even consider to look at it.
Pinnacle has good ideas and has all the features you need, that's why you are enthusiastic, but still, the program is technically absolutely incapable. It's also not possible to burn a DVD in high quality without any mistakes or even have a break up while burning. On top, Pinnacle software screwed up my computer twice. If you can't fix your computer by yourself, Pinnacle is the sudden death of your PC. Hands off folks, look elsewhere.
Customer Rating: Summary: Not one problem yet! Comment: I have been using Pinnacle Studio software for years (starting with Studio 7) to turn my camcorder movies into proper DVD movies with titles, overlays, menus and with the slop removed. For me, this is their best version yet. I have created one vacation and Christmas into a DVD that I can play on any DVD Player. I didn't have one problem and everything went smoothly. The only reason I didn't give the software 5 stars is that I haven't tried everything yet. It is a very good, versitle, movie creating software for home use.
Customer Rating: Summary: it's working for me Comment: I have had this editing software for several months now and was cautious about buying it because of some unhappy users who were concerned about bugs and crashes and lockups but I must say none of these problems are evident to me. I am using a new HP Laptop called the Pavilion dv8t running on an Intel i7-720QM1 1.6 GHz quad chip carrying 6 GB of memory with a 1GB Nvidia GeForce GT-230M graphics card. I see the studio 14's package spread out over the entire 18 inch screen which is 1920X1080. As a result studio 14 seems to hum and purr as it does it's duty! I am slowly coming up to speed with the complexities of how to use it. The pinnacle users forum is definitely valuable by offering hints and tips that otherwise were implied but not explicitly spelled out enough for me. Us old codgers find software intimidating and difficult to learn - Studio 14 is no exception in this regard but once I have begun to get the hang of it the results are very exciting. Old 8 and 16 mm movies (digitized frame-by-frame with exceptional care by Dedenham Media group) are brought to live with edge to edge sharpness. I sense that all possible detail and resolution are on display (I can see the grain in the film). Next step for me is adding a sound track. I plan to come back in several months to add further experiences but so far I am quite happy with what this amazing package can do. Incidentally users are complaining about the cost of add-ons and upgrades but when I think what this package does it all seems rather cheap to me, I am accustomed to something like this costing at least $500 and we are a long way from that kind of money so far! The hardware and digitizing lab services are where the big bucks are expended!
