Customer Rating: Summary: Will Not Load On Windows 7 Comment: Gets 4/5ths of the way to installing then comes up with a string of letters and numbers for an error code then the installer melts away through uninstall oblivion. Their website is poorly designed for support. Most of what is on it is BUY UPGRADE Other products and Users Groups. So basically their tech support consists of listing other users problems and expects you to spend hours reading the hundreds of issues. I had problems with Pinnacle years ago and stopped buying their stuff. That was back in 2001. Nothing has changed. Same old buggy software and same old on existent support. By the way, I am trying to run the Software on Windows 7 using Parallels on a Macintosh Computer. All other Windows software runs incredibly fast and incredibly stable. Except for PINNACLE.
Customer Rating: Summary: Buy only if you are a masochist Comment: I have been using Pinnacle Studio since, I think, V.7, well over ten years. Now I'm using v. 12. This product infuriates me by poor quality. I like the interface and ease of use, but it has a DNA of crashing all the time! I just spent easily 60 man-hours getting my China trip video ready, and burned a 1080p wmv file. That alone took several crashes to get through, and the rendering took 20 hours on a quad core 2.2 GHz PC with 7 GB RAM. Then I found out it rendered with crappy sound!!! To add salt to injury, I tried to burn a DVD. The menu commands are so slow that I can actually *finish* a game of Freecell waiting for it to add *ONE* menu thumbnail. UNBELIEVABLE. Finally, after spending five hours on a task that should have taken 30 minutes, I start to create the DVD by letting it run overnight, only to find out the next morning it got into a loop creating the final file. I tried twice, and it did the same thing!!!
I have enough of the crappy product. I swear the makers of the software are sadists who enjoy watching their customers burning hours of labour only to deny them the pleasure of seeing the fruit of their labour. If I could give Pinnacle Studio a minus five rating, I would.
Therefore, buy only if you enjoy getting tortured!
Customer Rating: Summary: Great Value Comment: I bought Pinnancle Studio Ultimate Collection V14 (PSUC)for about $100 through Amazon to replace Avid Liquid 7.2 (no longer supported by Avid/Pinnacle) which was a $399 product two years ago. The video quality of DVDs output from PSUC has fewer artifacts and transitions are smoother. Importing Mini DV footage from a camcorder using IEEE 1394 produces excellent video quality. I'm looking forward to trying out the green screen that came with PSUC. This product is a great value!
Customer Rating: Summary: Except Blu-Ray Burning v14 is inferior to v12. Comment: I like Studio 12 better for most things. V14 has some features ~ Blu Ray Burning, and additional HD render Formats ~ that I plan to use. I made a really nice Blu-Ray with it at 63% quality. The 63% quality issue was resolved(V14 can handle up to 40mps but most files etc burn at much less than that. So 63% is in practical terms just like 100% with HD-DVD). They messed up the import and the new menus are not as good as V12 menus. There is no way to turn off scene detection throughout the program which I found annoying. In v12 you can turn of scene detection in the capture preferences and it turns it off program wide. Scene detection is a possible hang so unless it's gonna serve an immediate purpose I want it OFF COMPLETELY. I make very simple discs and pinnacle is very good at it. Except Blu-Ray Burning v14 is inferior to v12.
Another commenter said No Output to Blu-Ray. True for lowest price version. Ultimate and it's better do output to Blu-Ray.
I'm familiar with Pinnacle interface so there was no real learning curve to Blu-Ray authoring or Burning except 63% quality issue.
No longer imports from disc folders. This really cool and usefull feature in 12 made v14 very very inferior instantly.
Customer Rating: Summary: LOTS OF ERRORS/CRASHES - HORRIBLE CUSTOMER SUPPORT! Comment: After years of purchasing Studio software, I am officially giving up after this version (v. 14, HD). Hoping with the Windows 7 upgrades, it would run smoother and error free, I am left greatly disappointed YET AGAIN. I am running Studio 14 on a new and VERY FAST desktop computer I assembled, with a quad-core processor, dedicated video memory and 8 GB RAM - so it not a hardware issue. The software simply is not reliable. I have spents hours making videos only to not be able to create the final DVD because of some "runtime errors." The software crashes often and is VERY SLOW. There are no words to describe the frustration of spending hours on a project and then end up with nothing in the end.
Regarding customer support:
First, they don't appear to be in the USA. Whenever you email them, you get a response the next day that was written in the middle of the night. Either their support are a bunch of night owls, or they are in another part of the world.
Second, I tried to use the "One Time Free" service code they so generously give you at the time of purchase (which is supposed to be good for one free support call). Of course, the number that came with the software did not work, even though I bought it brand new off the shelf at the store. I tried to get another service code number by sending a photocopy of my CD via email to support, but support claimed they were unable to open my jpg file. I tried opening it on other computers without any trouble. So in the end, after 6 emails back and forth (over the period of over a week) they would never provide me with a code to get my one free service call.
Overall, I am fed up with Studio. Though the product boasts a lot of nice features and the interface is pretty good (I admit), it is all outweighed by the fact that it is flawed with endless errors and frequent crashing. Save yourself the frustration and seek elsewhere.
